Prayer and Community Circles
Full Moon Prayer Circles
Prayer Circles are a ceremony I have been engaging in for years that is near and dear to my heart. I am excited to share it with others. The full moon is a potent time to go inside and hear what our hearts have to say, to offer gratitude for this earth that we walk upon, to find connection in community, and to send healing energy to those in need.
There are a lot of crises on our planet. Many of us are feeling despair, grief, rage, and fear. Prayer circles help us find solidarity and resource amongst one another, reconnect with our spiritual centers, and feel the abundance that is all around us. It is from this place that we can imagine and create another world… a cooperative, beautiful, and empowered place in harmony with Nature.

Community Circles
Community circles are a practice that comes from Restorative and Transformative Justice lineages. These circles are a way of connecting deeply with others, including around issues that are hard or painful. Community-building circles build the container and connection to hold more difficult issues down the line.

Community circles are preventative, helping us form the bonds and relationships that can navigate conflict. In this age of so much isolation, short-order “connections” on social media, and call-out culture, real, resilient connection is hard to come by. But if we are going to enact systems change, we must nourish the nuance and complexity that is innate to deep, lasting relationships. We also must learn how to regulate ourselves and co-regulate with others while in such conversations.

There is a real art and wisdom to the facilitation of the circle container that if done well, will likely be undetectable to circle participants. But circle participants should leave feeling lighter, very connected to one another, and that they were able to go to a depth that is hard to come by in other group settings. Trauma-informed group regulation is built into the format of the circle.

I draw from my ongoing training in transformative justice circle-keeping, energy work, somatic trauma therapy, and facilitating conversations about diversity to offer these circles. Although I will be holding the container, these circles are non-hierarchical.
